You can see his design influence in both your current home and that of your parents, probably. Jens Risom is a Danish designer who personified simple, elegant furniture design a half-century ago, and still works today.

You can learn much more about this fascinating designer on his site, but he’s included on a terrific post about some of the original “Mad Men” of design. A great bit comes from a list if the most frequently asked questions of Jens: “What is good design?”. His answer is a simple to understand as it is difficult to execute:

“Design is Problem Solving. Good design therefore is a good solution that satisfies many requirements.  While furniture must be attractive in appearance, the detailing, materials, execution and craftsmanship that go into the overall design must also be of a very high standard, whether the product is mass-produced or made by hand.”
